LASRA sent six delegates to the Biennial IULTCS leather congress in Istanbul at the end of May, where results from Industry/MBIE co-funded work was presented to delegates, comprised of the leading International leather scientists.

Our presentations included “A method for screening microgram quantities of proteolytic enzymes for depilation”, “Synchrotron studies of leather”, “Measurement of fat-liquor distribution in ovine leather”, “Collagen Alignment and leather strength”, and “A molecular dissection of quality”.

All the LASRA presentations were very well received and have generated considerable subsequent international interest in our work, with new collaborations being established as a result.

Richard Edmonds will be presenting a paper at the 2013 LASRA Conference on the highlights from the congress.
